Attractions:

Ice Caves/Sea Caves: Located along Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands' Caves are an incredibly popular attraction both summer and winter. The caves are a quick drive, between an hour and 1/2 hours, depending on where you are staying in the area. During the summer, kayaking to the sea caves is a very fun way to explore Lake Superior. In the winter, the caves turn into a frozen wonderland, luring visitors from all over the world to take the one mile hike to the caves. The ice caves are extremely weather dependent so you should always check with the park service prior to driving up to the caves to make sure that they are accessible. Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame & the "Big Fish": Located in Hayward, just minutes from Washburn County, the "big fish" as many folks refer to it, is a great way to learn about this history of fishing in Wisconsin. The kids are sure to love the climb up the "big fish" and standing in the mouth of the musky is a great photo opportunity. American Birkebeiner: Held in February each year, the Birkie hosts cross country skiers from all over the world. The event begins in Cable and finishes in downtown Hayward. Whether you are an avid skier or are just headed to the Birkie to cheer on the skiers, it's a world class event and a great time for everyone.
