Minutes of Monthly Meeting -- Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Washburn County Information Center
Meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by President Lee Magnuson.
Members present: Joe Fitzgerald, Dana Morlock, Lee Magnuson, Richard Fankhauser, Ann Miller, Charlie Swanson

Previous Minutes
Minutes of the March 15, 2011 meeting were circulated. Fankhauser moved to approve, seconded by Morlock. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
Michelle circulated the financial report for review. Swanson moved to accept the Financial Report, Seconded by Miller. Motion carried.
Citizen Comment:
None
Old Business:
□ LED Sign
Preliminary quote was $15,000-$30,000 for a basic LED sign. Michelle will work on getting the planter box redone to make the current sign usable during the winter months. No action taken.
Discover WI Planning Committee Report:
□ Project Update
Michelle received a list of names, addresses, emails from Discover Wisconsin from the Passport to Adventure Contest held in March. She will be doing an E-blast to the entrants with information on Washburn County.
New Business:
□ 2012 Visitor Guide Bids
Discussion was had on the Visitor Guide Bids. Miller made a motion to approve the bid from Advance Printing, seconded by Magnuson. (Yes-5; No-0; Abstained-Fankhauser). Motion carried.
□ Computer Upgrade
Michelle reviewed three options for possible laptops to replace the director’s computer. Fankhauser made a motion to cover the additional amount up to $1544 for the laptop and Microsoft Office program, seconded by Morlock. Motion carried.
□ Governor’s Fishing Opener 2012 Committee
Discussion was had on the Governor’s Fishing Opener in 2012. Miller and Morlock volunteered to help with planning.
Director’s Report:
□ Information Kiosk Update
Michelle has been in touch with Tom and Cindy from IT to get an account set up to order the monitor. We should know more on the price of the camera later this week. We are hoping for the kiosk to be installed in early May.
□ Sport Show Report
Michelle reported on the Minneapolis and Madison shows. She also mentioned that we may want to look at changing the amount of literature we bring to shows as it seems like people don’t know what to take, so they don’t take anything.
□ Bus/Group Tours
Michelle reported that she has the first four pages of the Group Tour Planner complete and is working on sample itineraries. Morlock reported that she is sending the first page to some potential bus tours.
□ New Owner Meet & Greets
Miller reported that the motel in Minong has been purchased. If you know of any new businesses, please let Michelle know.
□ Website Update-Secure Connect Update
Todd and Marcy are out of town. We will update at the May meeting.
□ WI Dept. of Tourism Update
Michelle handed out general information on the WI Dept. of Tourism. (See attached)
□ Visitor Statistics
Visitor statistics for March were passed around for review along with a yearly comparison by month for 2010 and 2011.
□ Line Item Transfers (if needed)
Fankhauser made a motion to transfer $956.67 from general to Office to cover the Literature rack supplies, seconded by Miller. Motion carried.
□ Receipts/Reimbursements
Miller made a motion to approve the Director’s Mileage Report for March, seconded by Swanson. Motion carried.
Correspondence:
-From Beverly Stencel-US Travel Association Travel Outlook handout
-Letters sent to printing companies for Visitor Guide bids on 3/16/11 and 3/25/11.
-2010 Financial Review Report
-Letter from Governor Scott Walker regarding Discover Wisconsin Premiere.
Other Business:
-None.
Motion to adjourn was made by Swanson and seconded by Magnuson. The meeting was adjourned at 10:02 a.m.
