Washburn County Tourism Meeting Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Washburn County Highway Shop Conference Room 

Meeting was called to order at 11:30am. 

Members present:  Dan Frase, Storme Nelson, Kathy Mitchell, Charlie Swanson, Rob Fletcher, Ann Miller, Betty Jo Brown Absent:  Greg Krantz, Bruce Miller, Gary Sutherland, Dick Fankhauser 

Others present:  Ruth Skeie 

Minutes of the March 27, 2007 meeting were circulated.  Motion to approve the minutes of the March meeting by Charlie Swanson seconded by Kathy Mitchell.  Motion carried. 

Treasures Report

Treasures report and profit and loss statement were circulated for review.  Motion to approve the treasures report and monthly bills payable made by Storme Nelson seconded by Betty Brown.  Motion carried. 

Web  Site

Web site report was given by Storme Nelson.  New members on the web site were announced.  Charlie Swanson volunteered to participate on the web site committee and Storme also mentioned the need for a couple of more volunteers.  Hard copies of the Membership forms were distributed by Storme in case any board members knew of anyone who may not have a computer or is uncomfortable filling it out on line.  These forms are also available at the tourism center. 

Marketing Committee Report

Nothing to report at this time but information was passed along to Rob Fletcher on advertising opportunities.  Rob said that Greg Vreeland is still interested in assisting with the Marketing Committee.   

Personnel Committee

Report was given by Dan Frase.  Job description will be publicized this week in the Spooner Advocate, Washburn County Register, Rice Lake Chronotype and the Sawyer County Record for the Executive Director position.  Applications will be accepted until April 26th.  Interviews will be conducted at the tourism center and a final report will be made to the board with recommendations at the May 8, 2007 meeting.  Ruth Skeie brought up the position at the Spooner Chamber meeting which has produced a couple of potential applicants.A motion was made to Dan Frase to change to the date of hiring of an Executive Director and staffing changes from May 1, 2007 to May 14, 2007, seconded by Storme Nelson.  Motion carried unanimously.  This date is after the May monthly meeting and annual meeting.  The Salary for this position will be coming from the money budgeted for the 20% original Executive Director position with Economic Development and the Office Manager position along with cutting of some part-time hours at the center.   

New Business:

Ruth Skeie mentioned again that Washburn County will be featured at the Wisconsin State Tourism Center in Hudson, WI for the month of May.  Dan Frase offered any of Washburn County Tourism sport show booth equipment for use promoting the County.Ruth said she will take as much information as she can from the tourism center to help in setting up the presentation.  Ruth is looking for volunteers that could possibly help in promoting the area by working at the Hudson Center. 

Ruth also mentioned that a lot of calls are coming in to the center regarding the closing of Burns Best in Spooner.  Dan Frase said that these calls should just be forwarded to Economic Development office. 

Dan Frase commented that the tourism association will be receiving a check from Schoolhouse Productions for $1,250.00 from advertising in the County Guide.  This is 5% of the Gross.
