The fun begins each year in April with the ever-popular Miss Shell Lake Contest and the year quickly proceeds to the day before Easter where hundreds of children converge at the beach for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Bunny Breakfast. The hidden eggs contain not only candy, but also valuable coupons and prizes that include gifts large and small. On July 3 the air is full of music as the annual street dance begins at 8 p.m. and goes until midnight right on Fifth Avenue in the heart of town. Later that night, the sky comes alive with the magnificent and glorious fireworks. Whether you're watching from a blanket or lawn chair on the beach or in your boat on the sparkling clear waters of Shell Lake, the night is almost always perfect for this spectacular show, which begins at dark.

Over the Labor Day weekend, the Town and Country Day Festival brings people from far and wide to celebrate the diversity of the town, lake and country dwellers. Horse and tractor pulls and the very popular Kiddies Pull combine with lots of food including breakfast served at the airport where you can watch small and sometimes vintage planes fly in and out while you dine. There are sailing regattas, volleyball, bingo, spelling bees, music and entertainment in the Pavilion all day. You'll have quite a time.

The year ends with Holiday Saturday, held on the first weekend in December. Hot foods, crafts, fine art, music, make it-take it crafts for all ages, vendors, and a visit from Santa and a live nativity is all topped off with the lighting of the official Christmas tree followed by a bon fire near the beach. This is also the weekend that the Theatre in the Woods troupe starts their Christmas play at the historic Quam Theater.

The Shell Lake Arts Center provide excellent concerts throughout the summer featuring professional musicians from across the United States and both of the museums; the world's largest Museum of Woodcarving and the Washburn County Historical Complex are open all summer.

There's fishing, boating and swimming available on the clear and beautiful 2,600-acre Shell Lake with rentals for every activity available at the Shell Lake Marine and the two quality hotels and campgrounds are all near city center for your convenience.
