Shell Lake Arts Center

Shell Lake Arts Center in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, offers courses for fine artists and musicians on its unique northwoods campus. There are resident programs for high-school students and adults. The center boasts a renown faculty, and includes such greats as the late Bill Evans among its alumni. Students have come from all across North America, Europe, the Far East and Australia. Students and faculty regularly present public concerts.

Shell Lake Arts Center has the oldest continuous jazz music program in the United States. What began in 1968 as a two-week jazz camp has grown into a summer program that now includes a wide range of performing and fine art offerings. Plans are underway to offer such programs on a year-round basis.

Initially founded in cooperation with the University Extension Service, the Shell Lake Arts Center was designed to provide innovative music clinics for students, as well as workshops and seminars for adults.

The Center's goal is to provide high-quality instructions in a setting where the student-to-teacher ratio ensures a high level of individualized instruction.
