Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Washburn County is home to several great trail systems for cross country ski or snowshoe enthusiasts. Our trails in the area are very family-friendly and a great place to take the kids out to learn to ski. In addition, Washburn County offers a variety of snowshoe trails. The Hunt Hill trails, located in Sarona near Long Lake, provide 10 miles of loops on a 500 acre nature reserve. The Beaver Brook Wildlife Area (Spooner/Shell Lake) and Sawmill Primitive Area (Birchwood) provide a back-country snowshoeing experience and are very popular areas for experienced snowshoe enthusiasts to explore.
