Welcome to Washburn County, with Northwoods in every direction! Not only does this area have Northwoods in every direction, but there is something to see and do in every direction as well. Washburn County is home to over 950 lakes, incredible museums and attractions, outdoor activities, great lodging, dining and more.
Washburn County is located in beautiful Northwest Wisconsin. Major Highways passing through include Highways 53, 63, 70 and 77. Washburn County is halfway between Duluth/Superior and Eau Claire making it a convenient location to take a break and explore, grab a bite to eat or rest for the evening.
Excursion Train Rides
From scenic excursion trains to elegant dinner trains, the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for your group. The train ride pairs extremely well with a visit to the Railroad Memories Museum in Spooner where you can explore over 13 rooms of RR history!
The Potter's Shed
Take a tour of an art manufacturing facility, paint your own pottery, and have lunch in the garden. The Potter's Shed welcomes groups with open arms to their gallery & cafe. Be sure to plan some time for shopping, there's over 100 artists' work displayed in the gallery!

Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary
This 600 acre nature preserve offers educational programming, dining, lodging, and over thirteen miles of trails. The property is home to mature northern forest, two glacial lakes, bogs, prairie and marsh land. Offering two designated state natural areas, Hunt Hill is perfect for educational programs.
Clover Meadow Winery
The only certified organic, travel green winery in the midwest, Clover Meadow offers a wine for everyone. Committed to sustainable, organic growing methods, Clover Meadow's electricity is even wind powered. Their cafe offers many delectable treats to accompany your wine.
National Park Service
Home of the Namekagon River: Wisconsin's Moving National Park, the Namekagon Visitor Center features interactive and hands on exhibits about the river and surrounding area. Park rangers are available for guided tours of at the visitor center.
Spooner Fish Hatchery
The wrold's largest musky fish hatchery is located right here in Spooner. The Governor Tommy G. Thompson Fish Hatchery offers free guided tours with a reservation where you'll learn about the hatchery incubation process and how Wisconsin's lakes are stocked with Walleye & Musky.
