The Best Pour of 2020 - Alley Cats Coffee

January 31, 2020

Kaitlin Hanson, Washburn County Staff Writer

Have you heard of The Best of WashCo? Well if not, you’re missing out because during 2020 we will be highlighting a whole lot of greatness throughout good ol’ Washburn County. We took the questions we frequently hear and concocted the Top 12 categories to highlight different parts of the county. Stay tuned each month as we highlight a different category, its winner & the top three nominees.

To kick things off I wanted to talk about The Best Pour. Who doesn’t love a yummy drink? This category was a very tight race and so was Best Bites - but we will get to that in a different month this year. The winner that we are recognizing for The Best Pour in 2020 is Alley Cats Coffee located on the north end of Spooner. Being a regular at this quaint little coffee shop, I was very excited to see them recognized! (It just so happens my sister dropped me off a frozen hot chocolate at the office while I am sitting here writing this and let me tell you… I know why it is one of their specialities. YUM!)

Whether it’s hot, cold, iced, blended, or something in between, the drinks served at Alley Cats Coffee have their own flare and are always served with a little bit of that northwoods hospitality. Even though they were recognized as The Best Pour, you can also delight yourself with delicious breakfast and lunch paninis, or pastries, salads, and homemade soups. It is all so delicious!

This was such a tight race to find a winner so I would also like to congratulate the other businesses that were in the top three of this category - Round Man Brewing Co. & The Longbranch.

Round Man Brewing Co. in downtown Spooner offers 18 taps with 8 signature brews with original brews and signature favorites and the taproom boasts the same qualities. RMBC is the only brewery in Washburn County and offers such a unique experience! Even if you aren’t a beer drinker, you’ll have to go for one of the specialty cocktails.

The Longbranch in Minong was nominated for its ever so refreshing homemade ginger ale. Yes... Homemade. Ginger. Ale. When I first heard this, I knew instantly I had to give it a try and I am sure glad I did. It was so yummy & what a fun twist to all the regular soda choices! Don’t worry, The Longbranch serves more than just homemade ginger ale, but when you visit for their amazing barbeque I can tell you first hand the ginger ale will pair well with whatever you order.

Stay tuned for more of The Best of WashCo! And when you’re out visiting these fine establishments, don’t forget to congratulate them!
