The Best of WashCo: Exciting Event
Best of WashCo: Exciting Event
Michelle Martin, Washburn County Staff Writer
One of the things that I look forward to most each year is attending our amazing events in Washburn County. While some of our events have had to make the difficult decision to postpone or even cancel in 2020, I believe it will just make us appreciate them more in future years. When we asked you what your favorite events were, your responses were so passionate that I know that I’m not the only one who absolutely loves our area events. Here are the three events that make up your “Best of WashCo: Exciting Events”:
The winner of the events category will probably not come as too much of a surprise if you’re familiar with our area. It’s none other than the Heart of the North Spooner Rodeo, one of my all-time favorite events. This year would have marked the 67th anniversary of the rodeo in Spooner. Without a doubt, the second weekend in July felt a bit empty without the cowboys, livestock, and amazing fans who come to watch this incredible show. The Spooner Rodeo is a PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association) sanctioned event and brings in top talent from around the nation to compete for a chance to head to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. While we missed celebrating the 67th anniversary this year, rest assured that the rodeo fans are ready to fast forward to 2021 and cheer on those competitors like never before.

If you love live music, hopefully you’ve heard of the Music at the Shed series held every summer at The Potter’s Shed in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. The team at The Potter's Shed has taken extraordinary measures to ensure that the show goes on in 2020. This open-air venue is nothing short of stunning. The garden is enchanting, the stage a work of art, and the pizzas are pretty amazing too. Be sure to check out the events calendar to find out who’s playing.
Bring on the pumpkins! The third finalist in the event category brings kiddos from all over to celebrate the fall harvest. Jack O’ Lantern Festival in Spooner is a family favorite. While it has been cancelled for 2020, a normal year offers a pumpkin roll down Siegner Hill, inflatable play park, pumpkin decorating, 5k Zombie Run, and so much more! We’re really looking forward to 2021 so we can celebrate Jack (O’Lantern) in style!
While we are all missing some of our favorite events this year, many of our area businesses and organizations have worked hard to offer event opportunities for those that are looking for something to do. Be sure to check out our events calendar for information.
