The Best of WashCo: Family Fun

Best of WashCo: Family Fun

Kaitlin Hanson, Washburn County Staff Writer

Having a toddler, I know the feeling when you’re looking for something entertaining that the whole family will enjoy. Well I am here to tell you there are plenty of incredible options.

As always, let’s start with the winner! Coming in at the top of the Family Fun list is Jack Link’s Aquatic & Activity Center in Minong. My family’s first adventure at JLAAC was swimming lessons and after just one look at the play structure, I knew my little one was going to be hooked. We have spent countless hours splashing around and burning off that toddler energy. Trust me when I say, it's a great way to wear out the kiddos for a solid nap. There is also a little deeper, free play area with hoops for playing games. Aside from the pool, JLAAC also has a great gymnasium area with a full basketball court & the ability to have volleyball nets set up. It’s a great place to be active and pass the time no matter what the weather is outside.

Next is another of my all time favorites, The Potter’s Shed. Whether you're wandering the garden hunting for fairy doors (there are over 15!), painting your own pottery, making your own wood sign, admiring the gallery, or listening to music - there's lots of fun to be had by all. Not to mention the ice cream & food from the cafe are the perfect addition to your visit there. If you take on a creation at the creative zone, you’ll be sure to feel like a true artist after you leave. Kids of all ages will feel like an artist after their creations are complete! If you’re tight on time this trip, be sure to do raku which can typically be fired the same day and ready for pick up.

And lastly, the Railroad Memories Museum also hit our top three Family Fun options. Even though this fun stop isn’t open for the season this year, it’s something to look forward to in 2021! This museum is full of railroad memorabilia (13 rooms worth!) and is a beautiful showcase of the rich railroad history of Spooner. Even if you aren’t a railroad buff when you visit the museum, you’re sure to be after a visit!

A list of three things is not nearly enough to talk about all the family fun that can be had in Washburn County. For more ideas check out the Family Fun page on our website!
