Fireworks & 4th of July Fun
Written by Kaitlin Hanson, Washburn County Tourism Staff Writer
We are getting ready to celebrate America’s birthday, here, there & everywhere across America. So, you want to know where to take in the fireworks? We have all the details and lucky for you there are plenty of options around Washburn County.
Saturday, July 3rd
Celebrate in Shell Lake in more ways than one… Start your day at the Shell Lake Fine Arts Festival held in the beautiful green space near Shell Lake Beach. And once dusk rolls around, get ready for a great firework show! This year, the fireworks will be shot off from a barge on the lake, so pick a spot along the shore and get ready for the show. Following the fireworks will be a good ole fashioned street dance with live music.
If you’re in the Birchwood area, Spider Lake Saloon is hosting their annual 4th of July Celebration with live music, a cookout and of course, a firework show. The music will start at 8:30 PM with the fireworks being shot off at 9:45 PM.
Near Long Lake are a couple of options for you. Check out the Long Lake firework show just north of Lincolnwood Resort at the south end of the lake at dusk. The view from the water is spectacular! And, just northwest of the lake at Rummel’s Tap is food & fun to celebrate the holiday weekend. Bring a chair and enjoy the show at dark. DJ Kevin will be playing music from 6PM until Midnight.
Outside of Spooner, on beautiful Big McKenzie Lake (in front of McKenzie Landing) is another show you can take in from the shore or on the water. Grab your friends and be ready for a 10PM start!
Sunday, July 4th
So where do we begin on The Fourth? Let’s start with what’s happening on the water during the day – boat parades! Long Lake, Shell Lake & Stone Lake have confirmed their boat parades and who doesn’t love to fancy up their watercraft and cruise around the lake? (These are just a few of the hundreds of lakes around Washburn County; don’t forget to check with the lake you might be staying at to see what they have planned!)
And of course the fireworks… we’ve got options! Stone Lake’s Annual Independence Day Celebration is an afternoon of fun with horse rides, a volleyball tournament, bouncy house, and concessions at Stone Lake Lions Park kicking off at 2:00 PM. And, ending the fun with a wonderful display. Bring a chair or blanket to set up in the grassy area of Stone Lake Lions Park to view the show.
The Long Lake Chamber will be hosting a second show on the lake on the 4th just off of Kunz Island which is near The Landing on Long Lake. You can take in the fireworks from the water or on shore at one of the great waterfront restaurants on that end of the lake.
The Spooner Fire Department shows up each year with a great display on “the big hill” between the High School and Elementary School. Come early and grab you spot near the Spooner High School football field or baseball fields.
There may be other firework shows or events happening throughout the area, this is just a start. Visit our Washburn County Calendar of Events to check out more information and additions on the fun happenings! (Or to submit your event in Washburn County.)
