Junior Ranger Program

With the help of an activity booklet, Junior Rangers protect, explore & learn about the park & its history. Once the activities in the booklet are completed, kids are sworn in as Junior Rangers and are awarded a badge & certificate. Kids can become Junior Rangers even if they can't visit national parks - but did you know there is one in Washburn County?!

Nature Playscape & Discovery Trail

Immerse the entire family in outdoor fun! Hunt Hill's nature playscape is a playground made from material from nature with features like a mud pit, small creek, log balancing, mini native prairie and even a fort. Or take to the Discovery Trail which has a new theme each month of items you can "discover" along the trails' edge. It's fun for all ages to enjoy.

Youth Scavenger Hunt

Exploring Washburn County is extra fun when the kids are participating in the Youth Scavenger Hunt. Visitors 18 years of age or under are eligible to participate! Pick up a brochure & complete five activities, bring back the brochure with your parent & pick up your prize from the Washburn Co. Visitor Center. Enjoy your time exploring!

Burch Barn

Fill your fall afternoon with good old fashioned farm fun! Each year, The Burch Barn provides a great family fun atmosphere for kids of all ages to enjoy. You'll find a giant corn pit, 100 foot gunny sack slide, corn maze, grain train rides & so much more! With new activities each year, the whole family will want to go back for more! 

Canoe, Kayak & Tubing

Paddling or floating, whatever your preference - one of the great outfitters along the Namekagon River will be able to set you up for an enjoyable family trip. Don't want the fun to end after just a couple of hours on the river? Pack up the camping gear & spend a night under the stars at one of the primitive, boat in sites along the rivers edge. 


With over 200 caches all around Washburn County, you never know where this treasure hunt will take you! Well, you could start at the Visitor Center in Spooner to ease your way into the adventure.

Zoom around the track at Bulik's Amusement Center. Check in at the front desk & they will get you all set up for go-karting fun. Kiddos not tall enough to drive themselves can ride with a parent & let's face it parents have just as much fun!

Fairy Door Hunting

Heading to Spooner's downtown? Pick up a map at the Visitor Center to guide your fairy door hunt. There are nearly 30 doors to look for! If you're heading to Shell Lake you can also hunt for fairies in the beautiful Potter's Shed garden.

Fishing Piers & Ponds

Did you know there are three different fishing piers in Washburn County & even a kid's trout fishing pond? Don't have a pole? Rent a free kid's fishing kit from the Visitor Center & head out to cast a line.

Mini Golf

A classic favorite for everyone to enjoy is Mini Golf! You can find an 18-hole mini golf course at Bulik's Amusement Center. If you have younger ones, a smaller but fun option is the mini golf at Quarter's Arcade. Check in at the desk at either place & they will get you all set up to head out & enjoy their mini golf course.

Wilderness Walk

Located just outside of Hayward, you will find Wilderness Walk. Throughout the 35 acres, families can enjoy an animal nursery, a western town where you can pan for gold, playground, & walking trails which will lead you around the park to view a variety of animals. You just never know what animals you will see roaming around with you!

Inside Fun


Grab your quarters & have some fun! All of the games at Quarter's Arcade, cost just a quarter or two...the name is quite fitting. This arcade is located just a block from Spooner's downtown area. Even the adults will be able to have some fun with the kids because who doesn't love to play the day away?

Near Spooner's downtown you will find Northwoods Lanes & Lounge. Even if you have little ones you could ask to use a lane with bumpers to get them eased into the fun. There are a variety of ball sizes & shoe rentals available right at the alley. It's a great way to pass a rainy day, or beat the heat in the summer. 

Creative Zone

Get those creative juices flowing when you visit The Potter's Shed Creative Zone. You will be able to paint your own pottery or create a wooden sign. They have so many pieces to pick from, most of which are made in their production area. You'll feel like a real artist after you finish your masterpiece.

Jack Link's Aquatic & Activity Center

Voted #1 in the Family Fun category for The Best of WashCo 2020, JLAAC offers lots of activities for everyone to enjoy. There is a pool with lap lanes, a play structure, basketball & volleyball courts in the gym & even some areas to just hang out. 

Palace Movie Theatre

For over 80 years the historic Palace Theatre has been Spooner's only movie theatre. There are always new movies rotating through for you to watch. Enjoy a matinee or an evening showing...& don't forget the popcorn!
