With all of the lakes in the area, you are sure to find the perfect lake to make those fishing stories a reality! Washburn County is home to Birchwood, known as the Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin and Long Lake, known as the Walleye Capital of Wisconsin. Not only are our lakes great for fishing, but our streams & rivers are excellent too! Be sure to check out our Lakes Guide for more information on the named lakes in the area. For lake maps, log onto the DNR website.

If you didn't bring your boat, don't worry! There are several outfitters ready to get you on the lake.

Kids' Fishing Areas

Minong Kids' Pond - Located at the Minong Ranger Station on Highway 77, on the east side of Minong, WI. The pond is stocked with trout and panfish for kids only.  Adults may assist small children. Catch and relase is encouraged, but kids may keep a few to eat.  Best fishing is in May to early June.

Totogatic Fishing Pier - Located at the Washburn County Campground on Minong Flowage, Northeast of Minong, WI off County Highway I. Panfish, bass, northern pike and carp are most frequent catches. There are picnic, beach and boat landing facilities. 

Yellow River Flowage Pier and Shoreline - Located on the West side of Spooner on the South side of Highway 70 at the Governor Thompson Hatchery grounds. Fish for panfish, trout, bass, northern, walleye and other species from the bank or several fishing piers on the flowage or the river below the dam. Guided Hatchery tours are subject to change, please contact the hatchery at 715-635-4149 for tour information.
