Washburn County is located in Northwest Wisconsin, directly between Eau Claire and Duluth/Superior. You could say that Washburn County is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, but that might be an understatement. With nearly 1,000 lakes, it's one of the premier destinations for outdoor recreation in the state of Wisconsin. Home to both the Bluegill and Walleye Capitals of Wisconsin (Birchwood and Long Lake), fishing is a great family sport to get out and enjoy the water. Exploring the Namekagon River

Wisconsin's Moving National Park, the Namekagon River, is one of the top rivers for outdoor recreation in the midwest. Part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, this river offers incredible opportunities for paddling, tubing, fishing and wildlife viewing.

Walleye Capital of Wisconsin

Long Lake, the Walleye Capital of Wisconsin, is a 19 mile long lake which not only offers superb fishing, but lake recreation as well. Pontoon rentals, along with kayaks, canoes, boats, and even stand up paddle boards make getting out and enjoying the lake a piece of cake.

Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin

Birchwood, known as the Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin, is home to some of the best Bluegill fishing around. This area offers a huge amount of small, glacial lakes which are incredible fisheries for panfish. Of special interest are the Birchwood Canoe Routes, referred to as the "mini boundary waters."

Fishing

Hit the Beach

You thought beaches only existed on the ocean? You'll think twice after visiting the beautiful Shell Lake beach. Part of Shell Lake's beautiful Memorial Park, Shell Lake beach offers a sandy shoreline with a gradual slope; perfect for families! Plenty of amenities are nearby as well.
